Are you a foreign language major with an interest in a future career in a health career in medicine, dentistry, or public health?\u00a0 Are you a pre-med, pre-dental, or pre-nursing\/nursing major and also a native speaker in a second language? International Medical Relief can provide you \u2013 and perhaps your school club \u2013 with a unique opportunity!<\/span><\/p>

Many individuals and groups with expert language skills find that by joining a medical\/dental mission, you get to learn and understand medical and dental care and provide health education to small groups and one-to-one while working directly with doctors and dentists. This unique opportunity may help you to fulfill more than one life goal by combining your skills and interests in a way in which you will touch hundreds of people each day.<\/p>

Volunteer interpreters are highly valued in IMR clinics. You will work side by side with doctors, dentists, public health professionals, and medical staff members as an IMR volunteer. You will also have the opportunity to listen to and learn from local interpreters, who themselves are often medical and dental professionals in their country. Over the last 20 years, IMR has proudly traveled with volunteers who are also native speakers from the Caribbean, Latin America, Asia, and Africa on our teams. We are also proud of the many dual-language club\/pre-health career students that have found their calling and their language to be a springboard to help patients around the world and at home.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\tInterpreters work in every area of clinic.\u00a0They are crucial to helping our medical and dental providers understand patients\u2019 symptoms and complaints. They also help\u00a0patients understand their diagnosis or treatment. Interpreters\u00a0work in triage, intake \u2013 everywhere! \n\t\t\t\t\t\tFinally back in the states after traveling for over 24 hours. It was a very long journey and I\u2019ve had a lot of time to reflect back over the last week. It is so good to be back, but at the same time, I am sad that this amazing experience with an absolutely amazing team has come to an end. Even though I was scared to death about doing this on my own, this experience has far exceeded any expectations I had and I\u2019ve made some wonderful new friends.\n

\nMy heart is truly so full and I am so thankful I was able to be a part of this team. The team was made up of 42 amazing people from all over the U.S. The people of Kenya were absolutely wonderful and so kind and gracious. We were able to help 1,377 patients on this mission!!\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t\tTruly humbled by this experience. It\u2019s been amazing to not only work beside such a diverse group of people with a fellow passion for medicine, but to also care for these people who are so kind and patient.\n

\nTogether we have triaged, diagnosed, prescribed for, and treated over 600 patients in just three days, and will continue for a few more days. We\u2019ve seen everything from malaria, infectious wounds, amebiasis, tuberculosis\u2026 to appendicitis, sepsis, and splenomegaly.\n

\nAll with the help of some skilled, hardworking translators.\n

\nIt never ceases to amaze me how great of an impact people can have when we come together for a unified mission. I mean, our team was just a bunch of strangers that all gathered in one place, with one goal: to serve and give to the people of Haiti. \n
